Basic knowledge of downhill

1, what is the speed drop

Quick descent, derived from the downhill protection technology of alpine adventures, was also used during rescue operations, transportation, and military raids. It later evolved into an extreme outdoor sports program similar to rock climbing and bungee jumping.

2, downhill classification

It has now differentiated into such categories as cliff drop, floor drop, bridge drop, and drop. The speed drop is under the guidance and protection of the coach. With the natural fall of the attraction, the rope is used to descend from the top of the rock wall. Participants can grasp the speed and landing point of the descent to reach the ground. Although it does not require strict professional skills, participants must overcome their fear of height and speed and have the courage to go forward and persist in the end.

3, the basic technology of downhill

The right hand is located on the right back side of the waist. Holding the tightrope can stop the body from falling. The right hand will relax at a uniform rate under gravity. Keep your upper body upright and your legs straight or slightly curved on the rock wall. Move down one step at a time. Except for your feet, do not touch any part of your body with the rock wall.

4, the basic equipment downhill

Including safety helmets, seat belts, main locks, 8 word loops, static ropes, gloves, etc.

Safety Helmet: Like outdoor activities such as rock climbing, helmets are an indispensable safety protection device. A small stone falls on the way down, and it may cause great danger to life.

Seat belts: The seat belts used for downhill rides consist of belts and leg straps tied to the sides of the thighs. When you wear it, be careful to adjust the tightness, otherwise you will feel uncomfortable during a long period of decline. In addition, when you wear a seat belt, remember to wear a buckle. That is, the belt is fastened back in the opposite direction to prevent the belt from falling off.

Main lock: It is vividly called "Big D". The material is very strong and can generally withstand a force of 30 kN and a force of 10 kN. Mainly play a role in the connection, such as connecting flat straps, static ropes, usually connected to the "8" ring, buffering people's falling force. When fastening the main lock, be careful to loose half a turn in the opposite direction after threading to the head. This is done to facilitate the opening of the main lock to prevent lock-up after stress.

The “8” loop descender is the most commonly used downgrade device. It increases the friction and controls the speed of descent through the eight points formed by the shuttle passing through the eight-character loop. When retracting the "8" ring, be sure to handle it gently. If the ring is cracked, use it even if it is small.

Static ropes: There are two types of ropes: the dynamic ropes and the static ropes. The static ropes have a ductility of approximately 0. They cannot absorb the momentum by telescoping. They are generally used as route ropes and are often used for exploratory holes and rivers. Basically not used for climbing, in particular, can not be made below the protection of the rope. The dynamic rope can absorb and release the impact generated by falling off, especially for the lower protection*. In the projects with the possibility of power falling, we must use dynamic ropes, such as rock climbing, mountaineering, bungee jumping, etc. The static rope is mostly white, even if Colors are also monochromatic; motive ropes are mostly flower ropes and colorful. Static ropes are used in downhill sports.
