What is the difference between a laser printer and an inkjet printer?

Ordinary needle printers do not have color printing capabilities, and the cost of consumables for inkjet printers is relatively high. There is no doubt that we have been looking forward to a printer that can output personal digital photos. I originally thought that a color laser printer would be the final solution, but its excessive price and disappointing color performance made us dispel this idea. However, another type of printer appeared in front of us again-sublimation printer. Everything came so suddenly, the sublimation printer, which is still quite strange to most people, has gradually entered us.

advantage:

For users, the final output medium of digital photos is not traditional photo paper. However, the performance of past sprays in this respect is still not satisfactory. Apart from the cost of consumables, the effect of spraying is also unsatisfactory. At present, the most high-end civilian-grade spray is only 4800dpi resolution, and this is only the theoretical value, the actual performance is much worse. When we output medium-format photos, disgusting ink droplet particles are always encountered unexpectedly. In addition, the color reproducibility of spray printing is far from our ideal. Often after seeing a satisfactory color match on the display, once the output is sprayed, the originally harmonious hue will become abruptly tasteless. Excluding the color cast of the monitor, the responsibility for spraying is inevitable.

In contrast, dye-sublimation printers have unique advantages in these areas. The density of each color of the color sublimation printer is controlled by the temperature of the print head. It can have a 256-level gradient. The pigment is applied to the paper in the gas phase through the sublimation process. The three primary colors merge with each other to form a continuous color scale. In terms of effect, the color sublimation printer is the best partner for digital cameras. In addition, since the color sublimation printer does not have the problem of ink droplet diffusion, its actual resolution has reached a very ideal level. The color sublimation printing of 300 × 300dpi has the color printing equivalent to 4800 × 4800dpi.

In various functions, the dye-sublimation printer is also superior. At present, almost all dye-sublimation printers are equipped with flash memory card reader and LCD screen, which means that it can work independently from the computer. If this function can be seen occasionally in high-end inkjet printing, then the plating function of many sublimation printers is a must. After plating the photo, the overall color feel will be brighter and more vivid, and it has the ability of waterproof and anti-oxidation, which greatly extends the storage time of the photo.

Although the consumables of dye-sublimation printers have not been perfect, they have made considerable progress compared to color jetting. In order to maximize profits, many color inkjet manufacturers have designed ink, ink cartridges, and printheads to be integrated. Once the ink is used up, the cost of user updates is quite large, and sometimes it is better to buy a new printer. However, the dye sublimation printer is different, it only needs to replace the ribbon, and the cost is much lower. In terms of portability and working noise, the sublimation printer also has great advantages. At present, most sublimation printers have a very small volume, which is very easy to carry, and those high-end jets are dwarfed. Due to the working principle of the dye-sublimation printer, its working noise is very low and it is completely satisfactory, which is very important in the office.

Disadvantages:

Although Dye-sublimation printers have many advantages, their various shortcomings also exist objectively. The most obvious point is the printing speed. Because the dye-sublimation printer uses temperature control, it can only print one primary color at a time, which means that we must enter the photo paper three times for each photo printed! There is no doubt that this defect of the dye-sublimation printer will prevent it from achieving greater development in the commercial field. In terms of speed, traditional color jetting is almost three times that of dye-sublimation printers. But for home users who print in small batches, perhaps this shortcoming can be tolerated. In traditional jet printing, if we think the speed is not fast enough, it can be solved by reducing the print resolution, and the effect is quite obvious. But unfortunately, this killer tool is not suitable for sublimation printers, the increase is very small, and it can not save any consumable costs.

In the business field, black text output is the most important, but this is precisely the biggest weakness of the dye sublimation printer. Because the dye-sublimation printer mixes solid pigments of four colors (cyan, magenta, yellow, and black, or CMYK for short), the purity of the black is very low, and it cannot be compared with jet printing. Although it can be compensated by a dedicated black ribbon, its effect is still not completely satisfactory, and it also increases the user's overhead. In terms of printing format, the dye-sublimation printer is still not mature enough. At present, most ordinary products only have an output capacity of 4 × 6 inches, which is exactly the size of ordinary photos. Compared with the A4 or even A3 format of jet printing, the dye-sublimation printer still has a big gap.
