The State Administration of Market Supervision recently issued the "National Key Industrial Products Quality Supervision Catalogue (2018 Edition)", among which children's furniture products are on the list. Judging from the results of the random inspections issued by the relevant departments, children's furniture has repeatedly been on the black list. The reasons for the failure include safety and environmental protection indicators, including structural defects and excessive levels of harmful substances.
When Children's Day is coming, what problems should parents pay attention to when purchasing furniture for their children, and what are the misunderstandings?
Outstanding structural safety issues
China's "General Technical Conditions for Children's Furniture" GB28007-2011 was implemented on August 1, 2012. The national standard has imposed mandatory regulations on indicators that are likely to cause harm to children, but many furniture companies or manufacturers have failed to implement them. Children's furniture has always been ranked in the high-incidence areas of quality problems in previous sampling inspections.
On December 5, 2017, the former General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine issued the “The Third Batch of Children's Furniture Product Quality National Supervision and Inspection Results in 2017â€. Among the 50 batches of children's furniture products sampled, 15 batches of products did not meet the standards. The regulations have a failure rate of 30%.
In addition, in the 150 batches of children's furniture in Jiangsu Province in 2017, the pass rate was less than half.
The reason for the failure of children's furniture is the most prominent structural defects. Structural safety is a test item for children's homes that is different from adult furniture. For children's furniture less than 1.6 meters, glass should not be used to avoid accidental injury caused by collision and breakage of the glass; at least two venting holes must be provided in the closed cabinet. .
The industry reminds parents that when adding furniture to children's rooms, we should first carefully check whether the corners of the cabinet, bedside and bed box are chamfered; whether the lower part of the furniture has glass decoration; there should be no sharp edges and fragile decoration. . In addition, when purchasing children's wardrobes and bookcases, be sure to pay attention to whether there are vent holes on the closed cabinet.
Be wary of excessive formaldehyde emission
Another important point to consider when parents choose children's furniture is environmental issues. Judging from the results of the sampling inspections of relevant institutions, environmental protection issues are also prominent. For example, in 2016, Jiangsu Quality Supervision Bureau's sampling inspection of children's furniture showed that nearly 60% of the 60 pieces of plate-type children's furniture exceeded the standard. Experts remind parents that when buying children's furniture, they should especially smell the smell. If people make people cry and sneeze, it means that the formaldehyde emission of furniture is relatively high.
In addition, solid wood furniture does not represent zero formaldehyde. Song Guangsheng, director of the National Indoor Environment and Indoor Environmental Product Quality Supervision and Inspection Center, said that if solid wood furniture is made of whole wood as the raw material, it is indeed very environmentally friendly, but most of the children's furniture on the market is made of finger joints. The product needs to be glued and assembled, and after being treated with insects and antisepsis, formaldehyde and other substances are inevitable. If high-quality glue is used and the dosage is strictly controlled, the harmful substances can generally be controlled within a reasonable range. Otherwise, the problem of excessive formaldehyde emission may occur.
Experts also cautioned that no excessive furniture should be placed in the children's room to prevent the additive effect of formaldehyde.
Heavy metal hazard is no worse than formaldehyde
Most parents ask about the amount of formaldehyde released from their furniture when they choose furniture for their children, but they rarely pay attention to whether the heavy metal content exceeds the standard.
Because the heavy metals such as lead, mercury and cadmium in furniture are invisible and intangible, the harm to the human body is not as easy to detect as formaldehyde, so consumers' protection against heavy metals is far less careful than formaldehyde. However, the results of the sampling of children's furniture announced by the Jiangsu Provincial Bureau of Quality Supervision last year showed that some of the unqualified products exceeded the standard by 40 times.
China's current standard "Limits of Hazardous Substances in Wood Furniture for Interior Decoration Materials" has imposed restrictions on four heavy metals such as cadmium, chromium, lead and mercury, and the "General Technical Conditions for Children's Furniture" has added a confrontation on this basis. The limit standards for four heavy metals such as selenium, arsenic and antimony are as long as the heavy metals exceed the standard.
Child furniture expert Zeng Qinglin said that children's furniture formaldehyde or heavy metals exceeded the standard, a large reason is the use of unqualified raw materials. He reminded parents to try to buy children's furniture at a regular home store. Although it does not rule out quality problems, the perfect service system of the store is conducive to protecting the rights and interests of consumers. In the purchase process, not only to check the sheet inspection report of the furniture, but also to check the paint inspection report to understand the formaldehyde and heavy metal content in all aspects. When signing a purchase contract with a merchant, the material information should be indicated as evidence of post-defense rights.
