Battenfeld-Groster Engineering now offers a new ten-color flexible flexo press, FLEXOELITE. The press quality can compete with rotogravure presses and is the first flexible letterpress printer to use a gearless linear electromagnetic motor to control ten print layers. The four motors on each board allow the press to be more accurate than conventional rotary ball screw flexographic presses. And because the motor has no moving parts that can be mechanically damaged, the printing press's production capacity is enhanced and the operating cost is lower.
FLEXOELITE presses have a print accuracy of 0.1 micron, whereas typical flexographic presses average only 20 to 30 micron. The press has a print width of 80 inches (200 cm) at 1950 feet (600 meters per minute). And the press winder offers 32, 40, or 60 inch (80, 100, or 150 centimeters) roll diameter selection.
The press uses a fixed linear absolute encoder and a linear motor instead of a ball screw to precisely control the rapid movement of the anilox roller, roller, and print layer. The printer does not have relative movement between the encoder and the drum as it does with a rotary encoder on the motor. All ten print layers, or any number of print layers actually needed, can be positioned with no more than two revolutions on the central drum, reducing setup time.
At the same time, the machine product conversion is very fast. The EasyLockTM system works with the PLC to automatically open the print station, preparing plate cylinders, bases, and roll covers for conversion. Because the printing layer has no moving parts on the operator side, unused rollers, bases and sleeves can be replaced during the printing operation.
The press is assembleable: a custom drying system can be installed; the inlet and exhaust fan is equipped with a variable speed motor to provide adjustable air flow for different prints; motorized dampening rollers on the air nozzle allow air flow and Individual temperature adjustments; and UV and EB printing systems are available to replace solvents and water-based inks. FLEXOELITE presses are designed to save a lot of energy compared to traditional flexographic presses.
