Japanese use of mustard extract to develop and produce anti-bacterial functional film

Recently, Japan's Mitsubishi Chemical Foods Co., Ltd., in cooperation with Jebsen Films, a packaging materials company of Mitsubishi Chemical Group, has successfully developed an anti-bacterial, fresh-keeping functional film called "acryloyl" for food packaging materials, starting from May this year. Began to market. The first quarter is expected to reach sales of 300 million yen. The functional antibacterial fresh-keeping film uses the moisture (moisture) reaction of the food in the package to release the mustard extract to achieve the antibacterial effect.

Antibacterial and preservation of the functional film "acryl-based Z" is added to the film material containing mustard extract ingredients ─ ─ isothiocyanate (AIT) heat-resistant microcapsules after processing. The AIT microcapsules in the film material can crack under the moisture conditions evaporating from the food, or release the mustard extract under the corresponding humidity conditions within the package. The antibacterial film can be divided into antibacterial effects on cakes, breads and aquatic products packaged with high barrier films, freshness preservation on fruits and vegetables packaged with water vapor permeable films, and extension of shelf life. Types of.

The antibacterial film is characterized by being able to release AIT in a wide range of temperature range, so it can be used in antibacterial fresh-keeping packaging for many foods. The AIT concentration in the package can be adjusted. Due to the diffusion of AIT inside the package, some non-contact parts also show antibacterial effect. The main purpose of this film is to prevent the discoloration and aging of mushrooms; to inhibit the elongation of mushroom stems and the inhibition of hyphae in the air, prevent browning of cut lettuce, inhibit the blooming of cauliflower, and prevent cakes or cakes, bread mold, etc.

Mustard extract was included in the list of existing additives as early as 1996, and the United States FDA accepted it as GRAS (Generally Recognized as Safe Substance) in 2004. Mitsubishi Chemicals used to use the “Wasa Oro” brand name for a long time and used mustard extract to make a packed lunch box—the use of fresh-keeping cards and anti-corrosion agents made to increase the shelf life of foods were sold on the market.
