The squeegee blade is installed on the blade holder through the support shim. The support shim can increase the flexibility of the squeegee blade, and its thickness is 0.25 ~ 0.35mm. The installation position, angle, and extension length of the squeegee have an important influence on the printing, so they put forward certain requirements for the technicians.

1. Installation location

In gravure printing, volatile ink is used. The shorter the arc between the contact point of the doctor blade and the printing plate and the imprinting point, the smaller the change in ink viscosity, the more favorable for the transfer of ink, and the better the print quality. Generally, the distance between the contact point of the doctor blade and the printing plate and the printing point is about 1/4 of the diameter of the printing plate cylinder.

2. Installation angle

The forward installation and reverse installation respectively form the ink accumulation area. The ink accumulation area formed by the forward installation has a tendency to be pushed outward by the doctor blade, while the ink accumulation area formed by the reverse installation has the ink plate to the doctor blade. In comparison, the reverse installation scraping effect is good. When the printing pressure is constant, whether the ink transfer in the ink hole on the printing plate cylinder is good is directly determined by the viscosity, so the positive installation is mainly used in gravure printing, and the contact angle is generally 70 °.

3. Extension length

Different printing requirements have different requirements for the thickness of the doctor blade, which leads to different extension lengths during installation; the doctor blades of the same thickness also have special attention to the extension length during installation. Generally, the extension length of the doctor blade is 25 mm, and the extension length of the support pad is 12.5 mm. The squeegee blades have different extension lengths and different degrees of curvature during squeegee formation, forming hard and soft squeegees. These two states are related to the thickness and extension length of the squeegee blades. The ink scraping effect is not good during hard scraping, the abrasion of the scraper blade and plate cylinder is more serious, and the service life is shortened; the soft scraping can extend the service life and easily produce dust. Therefore, the length of the extension must be strictly controlled.
