Indian steel drum closure "GRT" coil and "S" type screw locking technology

India's Technocraft Industries, although established only in 1972, has been working on the research, development and production of steel drum sealers. At present, the company's steel barrel sealer production is second in the world, with an annual output of more than 200 million sets. The company is the world's first manufacturer of steel drum sealers that have passed ISO9002 international certification. Due to continuous innovation and quality improvement, the company's steel drum sealer quality has been widely recognized by the world barrel industry. Now, in Europe, Japan and the United States, 95% of the export steel drums use the company's steel drum sealer products.

Every year, Technocraft Industries of India invests a lot of manpower and material resources in the development and improvement of steel drum sealers, and its technology has always maintained a leading position in the world.
Here, I briefed my domestic counterparts on the two most mature technological innovations of the company in recent years, namely the "GRT" type coil and the "S" type spiral ring locking technology.

First, GRT type coil

The basic size and shape of the GRT type coil are basically the same as those of the national standard for steel drum seals (GB/T 13251-2002). The difference is that the angle between the octagonal plane of the spiral ring and the straight surface of the cylindrical thread is different ( In fact, there is a groove), the angle of the coil of our country is 90°. The angle of the GRT coil is less than 90°, and the angle is reduced, so that the screw after locking has a great improvement in sealing performance.

The figure below shows the shape and size comparison of a traditional coil and a GRT coil.

3, the advantages of GRT type coil

GRT type coil, English is Grooved Rolled Thread Flanges, which means the groove for locking the sealing ring. Because the traditional standard spiral ring in China does not have this groove, the sealing performance is very poor after the sealing ring is locked. This part often becomes the main link of steel leakage. A large number of practices have proved that the traditional standard spiral ring structure in China, due to the lack of uniform pre-pressure on the sealing ring, results in uneven deformation of the sealing ring and gap filling defects, thus affecting the sealing performance.
As shown in Figure 4, it is the deformation of the traditional standard coil in China before and after the lock.

Because the top of the barrel is pressed at the top of the barrel, when the lock is installed, the top plane of the barrel is pressed vertically, and the liner is subjected to downward pressure, which is not easy to be squeezed into the plane gap (transverse deformation), and due to the barrel mouth The hem is also forced downward by the die, so it is much easier to squeeze the collar upwards (longitudinal deformation). This results in uneven deformation, making it difficult to fill the sealed space, leaving a large number of gaps in the plane of the octagonal coil, thereby affecting its sealing.

The GRT coil is improved to solve this problem. Due to the action of the bevel and the groove, the gap at the plane of the octagonal coil is reduced, and the gasket is given a larger preload, and the sealing effect is greatly improved. . As shown in Figure 5, it is the case after the GRT coil is locked.

Second, S-type spiral lock technology

In the transportation process after the steel drum is loaded with goods, it is often bumped or dropped, and the barrel mouth is most likely to cause leakage after the bump. When we dissected the structure and carefully studied it, it was found that the original lock structure was destroyed and the sealing performance was lost. As shown in Fig. 5, it is the deformation of the conventional standard spiral ring structure before and after the drop test.

In order to solve the fatal shortcomings of the barrel lock structure, Technocraft Industries of India developed the "S" type lock structure, which perfectly solved this problem. Figure 7 is a schematic view of the S-type spiral locking structure.

This S-type lock structure, because the S-site is also an eight-sided structure, after the drop test, does not produce the deformation as shown in Figure 6, basically maintaining a good lock structure, greatly improving the sealing performance of the barrel. According to statistics, due to the change of the lock structure, the barrel mouth leakage rate can be effectively reduced by more than 90%. At present, in international shipping packaging, important export and dangerous goods steel drums have adopted such a lock structure.

When the S-type lock is produced, it is completed by using the S-type screw lock special mold, which is the same as the traditional mold production efficiency, and can be locked and formed at one time.

Using GRT coils and S-type locking technology, these two technologies are combined, the sealing performance of the barrel mouth can reach 100%, and the barrel mouth can basically reach the goal of zero leakage.
