Book decoration processing technology and common quality problems

1 commonly used decorative processing technology

(1) Polishing technology

Glossing is the process of coating (spraying, printing) a layer of colorless and transparent coating on the surface of prints, and after the leveling and drying (calendering), forms a thin and uniform transparent and glossy film layer on the surface of prints. Glossing can enhance the appearance of prints and improve the performance and protection of prints. Therefore, the coating technology has been widely used in the surface decoration of books. The commonly used glazing methods for paper prints include coating glazing, coating calendering, and UV glazing. UV glazing technology is commonly used in the decorative processing of books.

UV polishing is divided into two types: full-frame light and local light (light at a specific position in a printed matter). According to the glazing effect, it can be divided into high light type and matt type. UV glazing can improve the effect of the cover decoration, especially the local UV glazing, and can produce a rich artistic effect through a strong contrast between the high-gloss picture and the normal picture. Because UV coating has advantages over conventional coating and coating processes, it has become the development direction of glazing technology with no pollution, short curing time, fast glazing speed, and stable quality.

(2) Lamination process

The film is a transparent plastic film compounded on the cover of the book by hot pressing to meet the requirements of friction resistance, moisture resistance, light resistance, waterproofness and anti-pollution, and the gloss is increased.

There are two kinds of high-gloss and matt-type materials. The high-gloss film can make the book cover dazzling, magnificent, and the Yaguang cover looks simple and elegant. However, due to the non-degradability of some film materials, its use is limited.

(3) Embossing process

The embossing and embossing process utilizes mutually matching concave-convex steel molds or copper molds to emboss a concave-convex solid pattern or an imprint pattern on the material. In book binding, embossing is mainly used to print envelopes, cover text, patterns, and wireframes.

(4) Hot Stamping

On the covers of wood, leather, fabric, paper, or plastic materials, the names of the titles, patterns, wireframes, etc. are stamped with gold, silver, or other colors of electro-aluminum foil or powder foil (without light). After the stamping of the book cover art is outstanding, noble and gorgeous.

In addition, the commonly used book decoration processing technology also includes die cutting, hollowing out, imprinting, pressing lines, etc., and each has its own characteristics. It plays a key role in the final results of book covers, jacket seals and letter covers. Although these decorative processing techniques can not change the color of graphic printing, they can greatly improve the artistic effect and are an important means for value-added and promotion of books.

2. Common quality problems in decoration processing

(1) Common film quality problems

1 Printed inks are not dry, especially for prints with large area on the ground. Before the film is covered, the ink does not dry out, resulting in foaming or wrinkling after the film is covered.
2 spray too much, there are traces on the blot;
3 The adhesive has poor quality, and the film has blisters, wrinkles, and delamination.
4 The temperature of the film is not correct, and the temperature in the workshop is not constant, resulting in foaming, wrinkling, and delamination of the film;
5 The calculation of the area covered by the film was incorrect, resulting in the phenomenon of film loss and edge-up.

(2) Polishing common quality problems

1 "Mapidium" appears due to crystallization of the ink; 2UV varnish is too thick, the coating amount is too large, streaks, wrinkles, and orange peel appear; 3 When the screen printing is glazing, the quality of the UV varnish is poor. Bubbles appear; 4 poor adhesion, poor coating or hair; 5 gloss is not good, the brightness is not enough; 6 white spots or pinholes; 7UV cured automatically after cracking.

(3) Hot Stamp Common Quality Problems

1 not hot stamping; 2 hot stamping is not solid, easy to fade; 3 graphic blur, hair; 4 sets of India is not allowed; 5 fog spots, brightness difference; 6 blisters.
