Gentag Introduces Temperature Sensors That Can Be Integrated into Passive Tag Chips

Gentag, an IP development company based in Washington, DC, announced that it has designed, patented and successfully tested a temperature sensing circuit that can be integrated directly on chips used in EPC Gen2 UHF (915MHz) or HF (13.56MHz) passive RFID inlays.

The company claims that the sensor only adds very small label costs due to the use of a single temperature standard technology rather than dual temperature standard technology in the manufacturing process. Temperature sensors have been successfully integrated into active tags and passive tags, while tags made using Gentag technology will be the first fully passive tag to incorporate a temperature sensor. Gentag said it is currently negotiating with many passive tag manufacturers to bring the technology to market. Temperature Tracking Passive tags are used in a wide range of applications, from tracking perishable foods, medicines to monitoring temperature changes in industrial products or military supplies.
